The Ibbotson Muppets: Michigan

After leaving Indianapolis, we headed north to Indiana Dunes National Park. Unfortunately, we weren't happy at all with our campground (it was more of a run down trailer park) so we only stayed one night because it was already too late to move on. The kids and I snuck over to the National Park in the morning before we moved on. The NP wasn't what I was expecting either, and I think will probably rank as one of my least favorite national parks. Zach has started writing a post about it, so I'll let him share. He probably liked it more than me anyway 😉

After Indiana, we headed north to Michigan. Our campground in Mears State Park has been my favorite campground so far! We were right on Lake Michigan, and out campsite was practically on the beach. There was also the most adorable little village outside of the park, and the kids and I stumbled into the coolest little independent toy store.

There was a storm coming in, so each day that we were there, Lake Michigan got a but rougher, until it was finally crashing over the walkways by the inlet. Zach used the opportunity to take a full shower 🤣

From Lake Michigan, we headed east to Holly, Michigan, about 45 minutes north of Detroit. Pat's co-worker, or as the kids know him "Uncle Keith", lives in the area and we wanted to stop by for a visit (and Pat wanted to sneak away for a round of golf). We took a quick playground visit at another state park (and saw the biggest bird I've ever seen outside of a zoo), and we also visited Frankenmuth, an old Bavarian town/tourist trap, haha. Frankenmuth was adorable and I loved poking my head in the little shops. Frankenmuth is also the home of the largest Christmas store in the world. Of course, I HAD to go there, but we got there a half hour after they opened, and the store was already at capacity and had a huge line waiting to get it. Darn you, Covid! So instead, we just took pictures in the themepark-like parking lot 📸🎅
